Classen SAS School Uniform Policies

On March 4, 2013 the Oklahoma City Public Schools Board of Education approved a district wide uniform policy. Starting with the 2013-2014 school year, ALL students will be required to wear a uniform. That policy is available on the district website as a PDF file.

The following information was emailed out on the ClassenSAS News Blast on May 8, 2013. Remember the last ten issues of the News Blast are archived and available on our website. Please subscribe to our News Blast if you are not already receiving it via email!

Pants/Slacks/Skirts/Shorts/Dresses:

Boys

  • Black, khaki or navy pants, slacks, shorts that are one solid color. Jeans are not allowed.
    • Hemlines must be of modest length not above the fingertip of the wearer with the arm fully extended.
    • Pants/Slacks/Shorts may not have visible insignias, logos, labels, words, or pictures.
  • Pants/Slack/Shorts shall be appropriately fastened at the waist. No sagging or “low rise” clothing is allowed.

Girls

  • Black, khaki or navy pants, slacks, skirts, shorts, or dresses that are one solid color. Jeans are not allowed.
  • Hemlines must be of modest length not above the fingertip of the wearer with the arm fully extended.
    • Pants/Slacks/Skirts/Shorts/Dresses may not have visible insignias, logos, labels, words, or pictures.
    • Pants/Slacks/Skirts/Shorts/shall be appropriately fastened at the waist. No sagging or “low rise” clothing is allowed.
  • Leggings, tights may be worn only as an accessory under Pants/Slacks/Skirts/Shorts/Dresses that meet uniform requirements and must be white, black or navy that are one solid color.

Shirts:

Boys/Girls

  • White, royal blue or black that are one solid color.
    • Shirts must be sleeved and may be collared or without collars.
    • Shirts may not have visible insignias, logos, labels, words, or pictures.
  • Shirts/blouses must be appropriately buttoned or zipped.
  • Undershirts, if worn, must be white, royal blue or black that are one solid color. 

Footwear:

  • Classen SAS students are required to wear footwear at all times.
  • Students shall not wear flip-flops, beach/pool wear shoes, or house shoes.

Outerwear:

  • Students may wear plain sweatshirts, sweaters, or vests that are white, royal blue or black that are one solid color.
    • Sweaters, sweatshirts, or vests may have school approved OKCPS/Classen logos. (no hoodies, except on spirit day)
  • Coats may not be worn once inside the building during the school day. The principal may make an exception if the building and/or classroom is unusually cold.

Hats/Jewelry/Accessories:

  • Students may not wear caps, hats, or head coverings of any kind, including but not limited to, bandanas, and sweat bands inside a school building except for students with religious beliefs requiring a head covering, for medical reasons, or as approved by the school’s administration for a special school activity.
  • Jewelry and accessories which pose a safety concern for the student or others are prohibited.
  • If a student wears a belt, the belt must be solid color, worn in the belt loops of the clothing, and appropriately fastened with a plain belt buckle.

EXCEPTIONS TO THE STUDENT UNIFORM DRESS CODE:

Students will be allowed to “dress up” for the following activities which may include but not be limited to:

  • Tuesday shall be designated Professional day (Business attire or uniform)
  • Friday shall be designated as a Spirit Day. Students may wear any shirt displaying any OKCPS name/logo on Spirit Fridays ONLY. In addition, jeans may be allowed ONLY on Spirit Fridays.
  • Other days designated by the Principal

  1. Are girls/boys allowed to wear navy blue shirts/outerwear? Also, are girls allowed to wear tiered dresses/skirts?

  2. I believe that we should be allowed to wear sweats or leggings or stripes to school if they are school colors. Because we are not making violent, distracting, or innapropriate clothes decisions. People need to be able to express them selves.
